Nagpur division comprises of six districts that have 161 Ashram schools - Government and Government-aided private schools in seven Integrated Tribal Development Project (I.T.D.P.) Areas. A sample of 20 government and 20 aided schools were taken for this study. Primary data was collected through four sets of questionnaires - one each for teaching staff, non-teaching staff, ex-students, and parents. Detailed information regarding available infrastructural facilities was also collected. It was found that all government schools were in a much better state than the private schools. Yet, couple of schools run by private organizations like Lok Biradari Prakalp at Hemalkasa and Gurudev Seva Mandal at Gondoda, were better that government schools. School-wise suggestions regarding immediate and long-term improvements were offered in the report.
