This was an evaluation study of twenty-seven Joint Forest Management
Committees (JFMCs) federated under a development agency known as Forest Development Agency (FDA)
in central Chanda Forest Division. This agency is part of Samanvit Gram Vanikaran Samridhi Yojna , a central government sponsored scheme. The agency was formulated with the idea of bringing all-round development of rural communities with the help of
grass root institutions like JFMCs. A detailed evaluation of the socio-economic aspects as well as the plantations of all the 27 JFMCs was done. Performance of each of the JFMCs was evaluated. An aggregated score was provided at village level. Accordingly, short-term as well as sustained action were suggested to make changes at the implementation level. The over-all performance of the FDA based at the division was graded as 'very good'.
